Overview of IB International Courses
in the High School Affiliated to Shanghai University
It is our school’s goal to build campus culture, gather excellent teachers, foster high-quality education and move toward international world. Since it was established more than ten years ago, our school has not only guaranteed high-quality and efficient basic teaching, but also developed IB international courses to further expand students’ international vision, improve their overall quality and create a broader and more advanced development platform for them. Each student has access to the courses, because “everyone can be gifted”. We believe that students with different potentials have sustainable development space. And how to inspire students’ individuality and make them grow into brilliant modern citizens is the common educational goal of all our teachers.
The concept of moving towards international world
1. Understand, master and spread Chinese civilization and learn our own national culture.
2. Understand and experience global multi-culture.
3. Introduce the concept of international education, cultivate students’ international vision, learn to look at the world with an international view, and foster strengths and avoid weaknesses.
4. Develop honest and elegant international character, and cultivate international talents with solid foundation, sound personality, active thinking, broad vision, competitiveness and responsibility.
The implementation of international courses
The introduction and implementation of international courses can not only meet some students’ need to study abroad and receive education in line with international standards, but more importantly make us pay attention to the advanced concept and mainstream direction of international education reform and development embodied and reflected in excellent international courses. It employs advanced curriculum systems, teaching and evaluation methods, and abundant curriculum content abroad to satisfy students’ need of individual development and make them foster an international view and have a deep understanding of multi-culture before entering universities. .
At present, our school’s IB courses include IB Chemistry, History, English, Chinese, Biology, Visual Arts, Psychology, etc. The courses’ teaching team is composed of teachers proficient in their subjects as well as English subject. This dynamic and creative team integrates the advantages of teaching at home and abroad and designs a cooperative learning model. It employs a teaching system based on “procedural evaluation” and provides a platform for each student to give full play to their comprehensive abilities so that it can meet the needs and objective conditions of the cultivation of gifted students in our school, and it is also consistent with the current requirements for the evaluation of high school students’ overall quality.
