On the evening of March 25, 2018, more than 400 parents signed up for the third Campus Psychodrama Competition in the High School Affiliated to Shanghai University, which was also the third school activity for parents.
Liu Huaxia, the vice president, first introduced a micro-lecture entitled “Understanding Our Children” to guide parents to understand their children’s behaviors from their children’s motives, needs and values. President Liu also introduced four different family education models, pointing out that authoritative model might be the most effective way, which gave parents great inspiration.
Subsequently, students of the second grade gave six wonderful campus psychodrama performances, which involved representative events and their confusion during three years’ high school life, like how to get along with the opposite sex, how to make future choices, how to deal with conflicts with parents and gain growth, and how to finish student work and so on. Students employed psychodrama techniques and daily scenes to express their inner feelings and thoughts. Some familiar scenes aroused a heated discussion among parents afterwards. Their discussions were like “I just talked to my child like this”; “this is simply a copy of my child and me”; “my child should actually have these pressures in addition to learning” and “my child’s subtext should be like this”.
Through the platform of psychodramas, parents and children had a more profound comprehension on how to understand each other and how to communicate with each other. Meanwhile, students gained an experientially deep understanding of the happiness and passions, the difficulties and setbacks they might meet during their three years’ dream trips in the high school.
